Longtime recycler will now have to pay

1/13/2005

Ever since there have been recycling igloos here, my wife has dutifully separated and recycled our trash once a week in them when she goes shopping. Now the state wants to make recycling mandatory.

To boot, the monthly cost to each household is estimated to be $3 to $7, and the landfills will not accept grass clippings and other foliage trimmings. The committee that came up with this plan must think we are that dumb to believe that with a monopoly this assessment will not increase much in the future.

Just take a look increased cable TV rates.

Apparently our household's efforts have gone for naught as we are being penalized and will have to pay for having recycled for many years by those who didn't care.
